Camp Cheerio’s Senior Adult Camps are five-day, one-of-a-kind programs specifically designed for active senior adults. During their stay, campers will participate in camp activities, enjoy excellent food, take in the beautiful mountaintop scenery, and make memories they will cherish forever. Campers also have the option to attend our daily out-of-camp trips to explore surrounding destinations of the North Carolina mountains. Simply put, our Senior Adult Camps are experiences full of fun, adventure, and relaxation.

The most popular scheduled activities that we offer are skeet shooting, canoeing, fishing, riflery, BBs, archery, yoga, mini golf, golf at the driving range, and climbing. We also offer hiking, arts and crafts, board games, and card games at all times during your stay.
We offer optional half-day and full-day trips during Senior Adult Camp. For one of our half-day trips, we visit Stone Mountain State Park where our campers can hike the trails and/or explore Hutchinson Homestead. During the half-day trip to a local vineyard, campers may request a wine tasting or a tour of the vineyard, depending on what the venue is offering at that time. During the full-day trip, we travel the Blue Ridge Parkway to a surrounding town such as Mt. Airy, Blowing Rock, and West Jefferson, NC. We stop at other destinations and for a picnic lunch along the way. Once we arrive at the town, campers are free to explore the area as they please. Then, we return to Camp before dinner.
We begin the day with a morning devotion at 8:00AM. Then, we all enjoy an amazing breakfast before the first activity block begins. Campers who wish to go on the full-day trip depart from Camp after breakfast. Lunch then begins at 12:00 in the dining hall, after the morning activity block. After lunch, campers may choose to either remain at Camp for afternoon activities (which begin after a short rest period) or depart from Camp for the half-day trip. Once everyone returns from the half-day trip and the afternoon activities are over, we join together in the dining hall for a delicious dinner and dessert. Every evening after dinner, campers have the option to participate in the night’s Evening Program. Evening Program is a game or activity that all of the campers participate in together (i.e. BINGO, trivia night, Indoor Scavenger Hunt, talent show, campfire, etc). Then, we share an evening devotion and settle down for the night around 9:00 PM. Bedtime is at 10:00 PM.
We schedule two activity blocks during a typical day at Senior Adult Camp - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. During the activity blocks, campers are free to roam and visit any of the activities that are offered at that time. We will provide the campers a list of all the activities that are being offered during each activity block so that they can plan ahead and have the chance to try every activity they wish to do and join the out-of-camp trips as well.
Being located on a mountaintop, the Camp Cheerio land is quite hilly, and for that reason we specifically market our Senior Adult Camp to individuals who are active and can move about independently or with the assistance of a cane or walker. That being said, we do offer a shuttle service to help our campers travel from place to place around Camp. Our shuttle operates in the morning before breakfast, during the activity blocks, and at night after the Evening Program. Campers may also request handicapped accessible lodging when they complete their application for registration.
We take pride in the quality of our food and are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions that our campers may have. Please just let us know your restrictions on your application when you register and we will make sure to provide you with delicious food guaranteed to fit your needs.
Mountaintop weather can be fairly unpredictable, but we do our best to prepare and remain flexible with our plans. If we are experiencing light rain, we will continue to operate our indoor and covered outdoor activities (those located under a shelter) and offer our out-of-camp trips. In the event of heavy rain or thunderstorm, we will operate our indoor activities and consider road safety in making decisions about our out-of-camp trips. We will always consider the safety of our campers and staff as a priority when making decisions about canceling activities and trips due to extreme weather conditions.
The health and safety of our guests and staff are our top priorities during all the programs we offer. Thus, we frequently clean and sanitize all living spaces, activity areas, equipment, and our dining facility. Masks are optional while at Camp, and we will remain cognizant of respecting your comfort level during your stay. The majority of our activities are outdoors and there is plenty of room to spread out at Camp!
Specific protocols for the 2023 sessions will be shared with registered campers and uploaded to the website several weeks before the beginning of our sessions.
