Horseback Riding
Horseback Riding
Available to All Campers
One of Cheerio’s longest running activities, and one of the favorites of campers and counselors, is Horseback Riding. Whether on a horse for the first time or honing their equestrian skills, riders of all levels will enjoy the views from our full size Riding Ring. Our barn is a great teaching environment where campers will learn to groom and care for horses.
Extended Riding
Fee Applies
Extended riding is available during 1 week sessions only, for campers going into the 5th grade and above. The extended riding class takes up one activity period each day. It is for Cheerio campers who have loved their time in the saddle at camp in previous years, but may not ride on a regular basis. Campers will have the opportunity to ride 3-5 different horses each day as well as opportunities to go down to our barn and learn about the care and maintenance of our 20 horses. Riders will be expected to understand the basics of riding and will be offered the chance to ride independently (horses would not be led). Proper riding boots are encouraged and long pants are required.
Advanced Riding
Available to Qualified Campers - Fee Applies
Advanced riding is available during both 1 and 2 week sessions for campers going into the 7th grade and above. It is only for campers who ride consistently and take lessons back home. We typically focus on the huntseat discipline, however we do accept any other discipline as long as they meet our requirements. Advanced riders must be able to walk, trot, and canter independently on a variety of horses (jumping experience is recommended but not required). Campers would be placed in groups with other riders that are on the same skill level. Proper riding boots and long pants are required. Please note that this program takes place everyday during our 1 week sessions and every other day during 2 week sessions. In order to be accepted into the program, we will need a submitted video of the camper riding at a walk, trot, and canter independently. Campers will be accepted or denied at the discretion of our Equestrian Director.
