Horseback Riding

Horseback Riding
Available to All Campers
One of Cheerio’s longest running activities, and one of the favorites of campers and counselors, is Horseback Riding. Whether on a horse for the first time or honing their equestrian skills, riders of all levels will enjoy the views from our full size Riding Ring. Our barn is a great teaching environment where campers will learn to groom and care for horses.

Extended Riding
Fee Applies
Extended Riding is available, during 1 week sessions only, for campers 10 and older. It is for Cheerio campers who have loved their time in the saddle at camp in previous years and want to ride more, but may not ride on a regular basis. Extended riding provides additional instruction in the ring as well as time spent in the barn taking care of camp horses. Campers will be placed in groups who ride on the same level, and activities for each group are based on skill. Riders will be expected to ride and communicate with their horse independently, under direct supervision. (Horses will not be led). Proper riding boots are encouraged and long pants are required. Please note that extended riding takes up one activity period per day.

Advanced Riding
Available to Qualified Campers - Fee Applies
Advanced riding is available during 1 and 2 week sessions for campers 12 and older. It is geared toward campers who ride consistently at home/take lessons, outside of camp, and is typically focused on the huntseat discipline. Advanced riders are able to independently walk, trot, and canter on a variety of horses with confidence. Campers will be placed in groups with others who ride on the same level, and activities for each group are based on skill. Proper riding boots and long pants are required. Please note that advanced riding takes place every day during the one week sessions and every other day during two week sessions and takes up one activity period for each day it occurs.
